Completely completed.

After one whole year working on this dissertation I have handed my final piece of work in.

It has been difficult with the editing process taking A LOT longer than I anticipated, but I got there in the end. I am really pleased with my work, although I do wish I was a better writer but I know I did the best I can.

This area of research has really interested me, and I wish to continue researching this area. My final year degree project is on a similar area, and I would like to continue on into a masters.

This is really the end of my dissertation blog. It has helped me establish my train of though, and showed my working and how I organised myself.

I am putting my full attention into my degree project. The blog can be found at http://interaction.dundee.ac.uk/~rtullis/wordpress/

My personal blog can be found at http://mynameisruth.tumblr.com/ My personal blog will overlap with my degree project blog as well.

I will also try to upload my dissertation to this site for anyone to read.

Thank you!

FINISHED!

I have finished writing my dissertation. Definitely was difficult thats for sure!

Although, I am 2,673 words over my 7,000 word limit, but hopefully it should be okay to delete some stuff. Been told I shouldn’t get too attached to some of the stuff I’ve written.

So here’s hoping the next part is easier!

Still have bibliography to sort out, and citation. I have tried to cite throughout writing so it shouldn’t be too difficult, although I’m pretty convinced I’ve done it wrong.

Also unsure if I put my whole bibliography in, regardless if I didn’t actually quote from it. I hope you do, because my dissertation has changed so much, so I have read tons, and want to make sure people know I have!

Chapter 3 has been completed!

So I know now what I am going to write in chapter 3, hopefully.

Currently working on chapter 2 just now, and then my intro and conclusion should come together itself, if all goes to plan.

My life resolves around the tiny floor space I have left on my floor. The dissertation cards have taken over my room. Sorting them into chapters is time consuming, confusing, and stressful.

I’m about half way through. Looks like I may end up dodging around these this weekend.

I have now finished categorising my cards and they went into seven different categories:

  • the people of the city
  • the city of the people
  • the community of the city
  • changes and development of the city
  • organisations helping the community
  • organisations helping the people
  • organisations helping the city

So I may have confused myself with the names, and should have named them better, but these are my 7 categories. I realised that they all in some way related to ‘the people of the city.’

From this I established that my dissertation should focus on the people that make the city, and steer my research towards this area.

The plan for now is to sort out my chapters and decide what I will discuss and quotes and statements I will use.

After 400 record cards, categorising done!

My four categories were Service Design, People, City and Community. City and People were the two with the most research on them.

Now I am going to try and map out the different components of my categories to try and start a structure for my dissertation.

Moved back to Dundee, and matriculated today, so I am officially a 4th year undergraduate. Scary.
